Zihautanejo....the beach life...Yea...beats -30C (even on a good day)..

Prologue...

.Oh.... how we've missed you!

...... Zihuantanejo....it is good to be back.....like that long lost friend, the wayward son or the lover you've never forgotten....you squeeze in your warm embrace, easily wrapping long-limbered legs tightly around us... until we are so... oh ...out of breath and still she doesn't let you go...She brushes her moist lips across your mouth...the touch.....the probe......The sensous dance... It's hard to resist...

.... From the fragrance of her land, to the feel and stroke of her finger on your sweaty skin, and the hot breath on the nape of your neck....The pulsing, rhythmic beat of bands, stereos blasting music at all hours that pounds the brain and seeps into your skin....we fall asleep, wrapped only in the warmth of  a bed sheet.....Lulled to sleep by the sound of the ceiling fan above us.... as the waves crash, birds squawk, roosters crow and the dogs bark....We dream on....the cold north we've left....just a fleeting memory...

.....This is the Mexico we look for...but seldom come across elsewhere in travels..
...A passionate, humid land... It's people proud, kind and generous....

.......here a sneeze is returned with a 'salut' (bless you) from a group of well armed Federales seated beside you at a roadside taco stand..... It's a place where the locals stop to talk, to ask about you, wave at you......Where grandmas play in the waves.....little kids ride quads down the dusty, main street of our little beach town...
....from an earlier post...SK

...........................

On the road....again....2019...Welcome back

We leave Vancouver and fly direct into Zihautanejo....an easy, spectacular flight, as the pics below show...cold volcanoes....hope they stay that way.

Mount Rainier, WA

Zihuatanejo

As with previous posts...we return to Mexico via Zihua. It offers a lot for short or long stays. A variety of beaches....good places to eat and pretty easy to get in or out of town.

Plus...if anyone has experienced the madness that sometimes descends on Puerto Vallarta's arrival/customs chaos...Zihautanejo Airport is a joy to pass through.

Our Air Canada flight was the only one at arrivals....customs was a breeze...even the red/green light baggage check was a snap. We lit the red button..but security was in a Muey Hola state....and waved us through. A one minute walk to the collectivo and away we went to Centro $1.50.

Casa Celeste Hotel

From good sleeps....

...an easy people friendly downtown core

Bars.....

Beaches....

Sun......

Great locals

Amazing views...

Zihuantanejo offers as much as PV...but less craziness and more local flavor

Easy to get around....

Sailfest...just one of many events that happen during the year....in early March.....GuitarFest...arrives for several days...international  in scope and all about guitars...

Want to go to Zihautanejo?....some Travel Tips

Getting there....flying direct is always best....
with lots of flights ...from lots of spots...all over Canada/USA
...elsewhere ...first stop usually Mexico City...

Getting out.....cheap flights (just over an hour) to Mexico City ($40 to $100 Can)...or hop on excellent 1st class long haul buses...easily get you out and into Mexico...

Sleeps...whole variety of options...from one night to 6 months...in the somewhat noisy centro to staying at Madera or La Ropa beaches....1 month stays can range from $400 to $4000 Can/ month with cooking and decent space

Eating....great market....shopping stores...local groceries or cheap to expensive restaurants making cooking 'almost' not worth it...

Around Zihuatanejo...cheap buses, collectivos or taxis run everywhere and panga boats ferry people to Las Gatas Beach...

Parting thoughts...
We've been here on and off the past 5 years....things are quieter...less tourists.....who knows why....some direct flights cancelled....who knows why....

We will be back....the locals are wonderful...the vibe es perfecto....beer is frio and playa es caliente....

But now....we need to check out of our room and grab a flight to Mexico City....cause from there ...one can practically go anywhere!

So...until ...our next blog from that 'practically anywhere'....we say...

Adios!
